I’ve chosen to heed the advice of those who say subject matter should reflect what the painter knows best.  For the most part, my paintings all deal with my little corner of the world – everyday scenes in Southern California, extending at times to Northern California and other parts of the West Coast.  The vast majority of the pieces are executed in oil on canvas, but recent works include oil on paper, as well.   I’m continually experimenting, and the gallery shown here also includes, as well as landscapes, some figurative works, animal portraits and a series on chairs, whose implied narratives and patterns provided more interest to me than I might otherwise have imagined.

 

Painting is a great source of pleasure for me; it’s taught me to observe things much more carefully, which, I believe, is worthy in itself.  Other artists concur with me that they’ve learned to “see” through a slightly different lens and hope they can translate that vision to the viewer.  That is my hope as well.
